The 19-hectare park in Hamburg offers a wide variety of flora and fauna. Many different outdoor enclosures are home to almost 2000 animals from all continents of the world, many of them free-roaming. Close to nature and exciting, Hamburg Zoo also has one of the largest herds of elephants in Europe.
Numerous attractions at the zoo
In addition to the large park with extensive enclosures and numerous attractions for young and old, visitors to Hagenbeck Zoo can also look forward to a tropical aquarium. An incredible underwater world along the equator awaits you on 8,000 square metres. A fantastic jungle world also awaits you, with numerous lizards, free-flying birds and dangerous animals such as Nile crocodiles and poisonous snakes.
A highlight of the aquarium is undoubtedly the large shark atoll. Here, sharks and rays swim peacefully together and visitors can watch the spectacle of these impressive animals up close through a large panoramic window.
Regardless of the weather, a visit to Hagenbeck Zoo Hamburg is always worth a trip. From show feedings, pony rides, petting enclosures and knowledge quizzes to the tropical aquarium and outdoor enclosures, there is plenty of fun for the whole family. A wealth of information at the enclosures turns a trip to the zoo into a small learning marathon, where children can get to know the animal and plant world in a playful and imaginative way.
The Arctic Ocean area is also very popular with visitors. The penguin world with ice grotto is a place in Hagenbeck Zoo where the South and North Poles meet and visitors are engaged with all their senses. The penguins are one of the highlights, but the polar bears and the polar bear enclosure are not to be missed. Here you can marvel at the different views of polar bears, both above and below the water. In the walrus pool, the lively, cute baby walruses that have been born in recent years await you.
Hamburg Zoo is open all year round, but has different opening times depending on the season. It opens early at 9 a.m. all year round, but closing times vary in the evenings and on public holidays.
